Demystifying FTA India's exports has been on the slide for several months and it has been a major area of worry for the Modi Government. In this background, Free Trade Agreements or Preferential Trade Agreements have come under scrutiny as there is a widespread feeling that India has given away too much for too little! With the EU Members putting curbs on India's generic drugs exports the NDA Government has also called off the FTA talks with the EU. The key issue is - what should be India's long-term diplomatic strategy for future FTAs? Should India bargain for more for exports of services in the future FTA? To discuss the various issues relating to FTAs, TIOL invited three experts - Mr T S Vishwanath, Trade Policy Strategist; Mr Gautam Khattar, Partner, PwC and Mr M K Gupta, former Chief Commissioner of Customs & Central Excise. And the discussion was moderated by TIOL Legal Editor, Mr Sudipto.
