Dr. Vinayak Prasad, Project Manager, Tobacco Control, WHO
Dr Vinayak Prasad, former Commissioner of Central Excise & Customs, is presently the Project Manager & Coordinator for Tobacco Control Project at World Health Organisation, Geneva. He is overseeing the WHO efforts to reduce tobacco consumption in many countries. He was also instrumental in the WHO's recent report - The Global Tobacco Epidemic, 2015. He is of the view that 10% increase in tobacco prices leads to 5% reduction in tobacco consumption. And one safe way to raise the prices is to raise the taxes on tobacco products.
