Tribunals - Pangs of Merger | simply inTAXicating Tribunalisation of justice has been a way of judicial life in India. Tribunals have grown in number over the years but they have also been quite successful in becoming effective and economical ATM of justice delivery. Incidentally, the judiciary has always suspected it as an administrative behaviour to encroach on judicial turf. So, it has periodically directed the Govt to review its functioning. In this background, the Budget 2017 proposed merger of several tribunals. How exactly they are going to work? Are they going to be more effective? Will they do more justice to justice-seekers? Or, the proposed Uniform Service Conditions are going to wreak havoc to acquisition of talent attracted by the Tribunals? To discuss all these points TIOL TUBE invited three distinguished experts – Mr R K Singh, Former Chief Commissioner and former CESTAT Member; Mr Ajay Wadhwa, President, ITAT Bar Association, Delhi and Mr R P Garg, former V-P, ITAT. The episode was anchored by TIOL Founder Editor, Mr Shailendra Kumar.
